Stray Haven has been proudly serving Tioga County, NY and the Greater Valley, PA for more than 50 years! Thanks, in no small part, to our amazing volunteers and dedicated staff. Through generous donations we are able to provide educational programs and short-term residential care for adoptable animals all to ensure the protection of animals in our area. We believe strongly in our no-kill policy which means fundraising relentlessly to cover medical and hygiene costs for our animals as we seek to pair them with their perfect home.
Stray Haven is a Humane Society dedicated to ensuring the protection of animals through education and service.
Stray Haven was established in 1967 by Elaine Forkan, the founder. Elaine began Stray Haven Humane Society as a solution to care for stray and abandoned animals in the community. In the beginning, our organization was a strictly volunteer operated non-profit using an old smokehouse called, O’Brien’s. We were established as a 501c3 on June 1, 1971 and moved to our current location at 194 Shepard Road in Waverly, NY 14892. As of 2011, we transitioned, proudly, to becoming a no-kill shelter.
Hi! It's so nice to meet you! My name is Paisley, I am a gorgeous 2-year-old tabby calico! I came to Stray Haven from another shelter called You Too Rescue with a bunch of my friends! I am a reserved kitty initially, but once I get to know you I can open up! I need a family who will be very gentle and patient with me so that I feel more comfortable being myself! Once I get to know you I love to follow around you and just know what you're up to! One of my favorite ways to bond with people is to have my fur brushed! I just think that my gorgeous coat deserves special treatment! If you want to get on my good side though you should bring me my favorite snack, Temptations Treats! If you would like to meet me, just come into Stray Haven and ask for me!
Hey there, I am Misha, a 3-year-old pitbull mix who came from Georgia. The staff at Stray Haven was told I don't like men, but they haven't seen any issues with the male staff here. Just take things slow with me until I warm up to you. The staff doesn't know much about my past, but they have gotten to know me. Stop in and let them tell you what a good girl I am!
Hello world, Dexter here I am an older boy at 11 years old. I am a bluetick coonhound mix. I am looking for a quite home I can retire to. Even though I am an older boy I do have some spring left in my step. I like to go for walks and spend time outside. I would also love to curl up with you on the couch and watch a good movie. If it sounds like you could be my perfect fit home, please stop in to Stray Haven to meet me.
When adopting an animal through Stray Haven you now have access to a free 30-day post-adoption training program!
